Tile Vania

Unity

Tile Vania is a retro-inspired 2D side-scrolling platformer built in Unity, featuring smooth player movement, tilemap-based level design, and animated enemy encounters. The game stands out with its unique laser shooting mechanic, allowing players to engage enemies using precise timing and aim.

Core features include:

  • Laser-based combat: Players can shoot lasers to defeat enemies, adding action to traditional platforming.
  • Tilemap environment: Carefully crafted levels using Unity’s tilemap system to build platforms and backgrounds.
  • Player and enemy animations: Visual feedback and character actions brought to life through animations.
  • Obstacle navigation: Timed jumps, platform gaps, and enemy patterns challenge the player throughout the levels.

Tile Vania served as a foundation for learning key elements of 2D game development—from sprite animation and tilemap integration to implementing responsive combat systems. It’s a great example of blending platforming with light combat to keep gameplay engaging and rewarding.
